From Aucoin to Zidlicky, hockey names impress

As a fan of names, I take great joy in the often hilarious names of hockey players.

My current favourite on what sports commentators like to call the “all-name team” is none other than Cal Clutterbuck of the Minnesota Wild. You couldn’t make up a name that good.

Players like Marek Zidlicky, Miroslav Satan, and Guillaume Latendresse help keep highlights packages exciting.

The Canucks seem a little deficient in this area. While there are some unusual names on the team, in my opinion the only player whose name approaches that level is Darcy Hordichuk

Got any favourites you’d like to share?

Sergei Krivokrasov and Per Djoos were pretty tasty hockey names.

I think Darren Puppa might be my all-time favourite NHL name. The Canucks, though, could ice this all-time lineup: a defense corps made up of Jiri Bubla, Anders Elderbrink, Larry Goodenough, and Sheldon Kannegiesser. Among the forwards would be Lonny Bohonos, Howard Gassoff, Petri Skriko, and Paul Lawless. Orland Kurtenbach would be captain. Ed Dyck would play goal.
